PADI Open Water course
Duration:
This course builds on the concept of performance based learning, thus you can complete your training in as little as a week or as long as a month. Theory is offered as either classroom lectures or self-study.

Prerequisites:
- Minimum is 15 years for scuba divers certification. Junior certification for ages 10 – 14 years is also on offer. Minimum age for E-learners is 13 years.
- A medical examination before the commencement of the course or an updated medical within the previous 12 months.
- All PADI waivers/releases and related forms completed.
- Two recent ID photographs.
- Full Payment will be required before any academic or water session
Aim of the course:
Alpha Dive Centre’s aim is to train students according to standards set by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), and to maintain a level of safety and communication between the student and instructor.
Divers are trained to plan and execute openwater dives competently, with no decompression obligations, up to a depth of 18m.
Underwater Skills:
- Give, recognize and respond appropriately to common underwater communications.
- Mask clearing, including removal and replacement
- Underwater swim without a mask.
- Remove, replace and clear primary regulator.
- Five-point ascent and descent
- Hover without support or significant movement for 30 seconds
- Fin pivot
- Remove and replace scuba unit on the surface
- Remove and replace weight system underwater
- Remove and replace scuba unit underwater
- Use the buddy system for scuba diving, remaining within 3m or less if required by conditions of buddy.
- Monitor air supply and communicate amount remaining upon request and manage air supply so as to surface within a pre planned minimum air limit.
- Using environmental navigation aids, travel underwater to a designated location or in a given direction for a set period of time.
Sea Dives
- The minimum number of open water dives is 4.
- No more than three scuba dives may be made on a single day during the course.
- 18 m is the maximum depth for any open water training dives during the course.
- Sea dives are done anywhere (weather dependant) between Rooi-Els and Simon's Town or Atlantic Side.
