Snorkelling for Kids

As alternatives to this course for kids, see also Junior Open Water or PADI Seal Team.

This course is a fantastic opportunity for your children to enjoy the sea and spend their holidays. We will teach them new and amazing underwater skills at a level they are happy with. More advanced "water babies" will be challenged too but no one will ever be forced!

Duration:

The course is normally comprised of three full days with a day of rest between each day of training. 2010 courses run from 9am-4pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The course is wrapped up with an outing to the Save Our Seas Shark centre in Fishhoek and an underwater treasure hunt at Boulders Beach, Simonstown.
Courses run during Western Cape school holidays - particularly December vacation.

Prerequisites:
  • For ages 7 - 11 years
  • All NAUI waivers / releases and related forms completed.
  • A recent photograph
  • Own mask, fin and snorkel set (please seek advise from us before purchasing)
Aim of the course:

Snorkellers will be taught the correct use and care of their own equipment. We will be focusing on correct finning and diving techniques as well as to how to properly clear mask & snorkel. All skills are taught in a fun way with the use of games. For safety reasons skills are first taught in the pool before venturing to the ocean. Emphasis is also place on self-rescue and buddy assistance.
Great fun is had in-between snorkelling with beach games and picnics, outings (e.g. NSRI), "try scuba programme", rock-pooling and picnics.

Sea Dives:

The minimum number of open water dives is two and always preceded with a minimum of two confined water (pool) sessions.
Sea dives are done anywhere (weather dependant) between Rooi-Els and Simon's Town particularly during low-tide in and around rock and tidal pools.

Cost:
R650 (2010 rates)
